History

Zimbabwe got independent in 1980 from being Southern Rhodesia and joined the many of the countries which were imposing sanctions against the Apartheid system making it difficult for the National Association to continue playing baseball in southern Africa but to continue only with softball as Botswana, Lesotho, Zambia were playing. In the late 1980s the IBaF encouraged the Softball to corporate Baseball in their program hence the formation of the continental body Africa Baseball Softball Association (ABSA) in 1990, under the Leadership of Malcom Burne, who was the President of Zimbabwe.
